Common questions

General guidance only. We’ll confirm what applies once we understand your circumstances.

Can I deduct my mortgage interest?

Individual landlords with residential property can no longer deduct mortgage interest from rental income. Instead they get a basic-rate tax credit for finance costs. Companies are treated differently, which is one reason ownership structure matters.

Should I own my properties through a company?

It depends on your income, plans and financing, and moving existing property into a company can trigger tax. We talk it through with you rather than giving a one-size answer.
